Manchester United are reportedly growing in ‘confidence’ over the prospect of signing both Ederson and Sandro Tonali this summer.

That’s according to Sky Sports Italy reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, who adds that the Red Devils have overtaken Atletico Madrid in the race for Ederson’s signature.

Ederson closing in on United switch

Remarkably, personal terms between Atleti and the Brazilian have been in place since March, but Diego Simeone’s side were unwilling to commit to the £39 million transfer fee set by Atalanta.

The La Liga outfit then turned their attention to an alternative target in the form of Wolverhampton Wanderers wantaway Joao Gomes, who has also been linked with United in recent months.

That paved the way for United to materialise their interest in Ederson, 26, and begin exploring how a deal could look.

Reds looking to prise Tonali from reluctant Magpies

As for Tonali, it was confirmed several weeks ago that he had been added to the Red Devils’ shortlist.

It’s anticipated he will part ways with Newcastle United this summer due to his desire to continue playing in the Champions League, which he can fulfil at Old Trafford.

Although the Magpies will be desperate to keep hold of their midfield talisman, there is an acceptance behind the scenes that sales will be necessary to balance the books when the window opens, and he is undoubtedly one of their most valuable assets.

The 25-year-old was offered by his agent to Arsenal in the winter, but Newcastle blocked any potential mid-season departure.

Negotiations for Tonali could also commence as soon as the window opens, given he won’t be heading to the World Cup with Italy following their play-off final heartbreak.

It remains to be seen what kind of fee Newcastle would demand for him, and how much they’ll add when it looks as though he could be United-bound.
