Sky Sports Germany are reporting that Newcastle United star Fabian Schar could be set for a move to the Bundesliga.

They claim that a number of clubs in Germany are interested in signing the centre-back.

Sky Sports Germany also adding that ‘talks are underway’ but they don’t name the club(s) that are allegedly having the talks with Fabian Schar and/or his representatives.

Schar turns 34 in December and as things stand, his current Newcastle United contract ends on 30 June 2026.

Sky Sports Germany cite the fact that currently Malick Thiaw is playing ahead of Fabian Schar.

Although Schar did come back into the team for the Spurs match in the Carabao Cup and headed the opening goal, United eventually winning 2-0 and heading into the quarter-finals.

The Swiss defender was previously on the books of TSG Hoffenheim from 2015 to 2017 when Joelinton was a Hoffenheim player as well.

Fabian Schar is still a huge asset and I can’t see any way that Eddie Howe would contemplate moving him on, not when United have reached a rare point of such strength in that area, with Burn, Botman, Schar and Thiaw, as well as Lascelles as further back up.

In the last two mid-seasons, Fabian Schar and Newcastle United have added an extra season onto his contract, it remains to be seen whether that happens again or not.

So whilst as things stand a move to a Bundesliga club, or a club elsewhere, could well happen next summer, I see zero chance of that happening in January.
