Chelsea’s search for stability appears to be gathering pace, with Sky Sports reporting that Xabi Alonso has “emerged as the candidate with the best CV for the Chelsea job”.
That assessment reflects both his glittering playing career and the impressive managerial work completed at Bayer Leverkusen. Alonso has earned admiration across Europe for building an organised, intelligent and fearless side, qualities Chelsea supporters have craved during recent turbulent seasons.

There is also a growing belief within football circles that Alonso “wasn’t given enough time at Real Madrid and he would have been successful if he had kept his job”. That perspective only strengthens his reputation as one of Europe’s elite young coaches.
Chelsea remain focused on the FA Cup final, but discussions continue behind the scenes involving sporting directors and managerial representatives.
Experience matters in this process. Chelsea want a coach capable of handling pressure, expectation and constant scrutiny. Alonso’s calm authority and tactical clarity make him a compelling option if the club decide to move forward.

Chelsea supporters would likely welcome this report with cautious excitement. Alonso carries credibility that many recent appointments lacked. Fans have grown tired of short term thinking, fragmented recruitment and managers struggling to impose a recognisable identity on the team.
What appeals most about Alonso is the style attached to his work. At Bayer Leverkusen, his side played with control, aggression and intelligence. Chelsea fans would immediately connect with that because Stamford Bridge has too often witnessed confusion instead of cohesion over recent years.
There would also be belief that Alonso’s stature as a former elite player could command instant respect inside the dressing room. Supporters want a manager capable of developing younger players while also demanding standards from expensive signings who have underperformed.
At the same time, many Chelsea fans would recognise the scale of the challenge. Managing Chelsea brings relentless pressure, constant media attention and expectations that rarely allow patience. Alonso may be admired, but supporters would still want structural stability above him to ensure any new appointment has a genuine chance to succeed.
