Chelsea star Moises Caicedo can be more than just a defensive midfielder according to former Premier League player Jamie O’Hara.

Caicedo has once again been in superb form this season, and has rightly been receiving plaudits for his performances.

Gary Neville believes Caicedo is currently the best midfielder in the Premier League, and on the early season evidence it’s very hard to argue against that.

Jamie O’Hara praises Moises Caicedo

The Ecuador international has excelled in the more defensive midfield role, but he’s shown with his passing and goalscoring there’s more to his game.

Caicedo scored a brilliant goal against Liverpool, and has found the back of the net three times in Chelsea’s opening seven league games.

The 23-year-old clearly possesses the ability to play a more advanced role in midfield, and O’Hara has suggested he’s more than capable.

“People see him as a holding midfielder, a sitting midfielder like [Claude] Makelele and players like that, but he can play higher up the pitch, he can make runs into the box to get on the end of things and he can strike a ball,” he told Sky Sports.

“For me now, Caicedo is the best midfielder in the league.”

Chelsea arguably have the best midfield options in the league as they also possess Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia amongst their ranks.

Enzo Fernandez earning praise this season

Caicedo isn’t the only Chelsea midfielder being praised this season, with Fernandez also receiving his fair share of plaudits.

The Argentine has also scored three goals in the opening seven league games, and Jamie Redknapp admitted after the Liverpool game Fernandez had won him over.

Fernandez has been playing in a more advanced role in Cole Palmer’s absence, but with Lavia now fit again it’ll be interesting to see how Enzo Maresca juggles his midfield options.
