Chelsea decided to put Calum McFarlane in charge for the remainder of the season because he’s “done the job before” and worked inside the structure according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solkehol.

Chelsea sacked Liam Rosenior on Wednesday less than four months after he signed a six and a half year contract at Stamford Bridge.

Rosenior became the second head coach to leave this season following the departure of Enzo Maresca in January.

Why Chelsea appointed Calum McFarlane

Whilst the Blues begin yet another search for a new head coach, McFarlane has been placed in charge for the remainder of the season.

McFarlane oversaw games against Manchester City and Fulham earlier this season, but faces a really difficult task in lifting the group.

Chelsea are on a run of five consecutive defeats in the league without scoring, and face an FA Cup semi final against Leeds at Wembley on Sunday.

McFarlane is said to be liked by the Chelsea squad, and Solhekol has revealed why the Blues decided to appoint him again.

“The reason they’ve gone for Callum McFarlane is simple,” he told Sky Sports.

“He’s somebody who’s done the job before. He was in charge for two games. He’s someone who’s inside the building and worked inside the structure.

“So, I know a lot of fans want them to sort of demolish that structure and go back to the way things used to be at Stamford Bridge, but at the moment it doesn’t look like that is going to happen.”
