Real Madrid are gearing up for one of their most important matches of the year as they take on SL Benfica in the first leg of the two-legged Champions League knockout playoff match.
Benfica had swept aside Real Madrid 4-2 during the league phase, much to the satisfaction of coach Jose Mourinho, who knows Real Madrid inside out.
However, as Benfica look to approach Real Madrid once again, coach Mourinho has had to take a quick detour to the hospital.
According to A Bola (h/t MARCA), Mourinho was treated at the Hospital do Divino Espírito Santo in Ponta Delgada on Friday morning, just days before the Real Madrid clash.
The report adds that the Special One had to visit the hospital due to an ear inflammation that was causing him much discomfort.
As a result, the Portuguese tactician visited the hospital to get himself treated and to avoid any unforeseen circumstances that may see him miss out on the Real Madrid game.

Mourinho’s stay at the hospital didn’t last more than an hour. He was treated immediately and effectively and was given proper medication.
The Benfica coach was able to return to the Benfica hotel and had no problem leading his team to a victory over Santa Clara.
Everything suggests Mourinho will be ready as Benfica play hosts to Real Madrid at Estadio da Luz on Tuesday, with the Portuguese eyeing yet another win over his former club.
However, Mourinho’s task will be made complicated due to the return of Kylian Mbappe, who had been struggling with an injury, but coach Arbeloa has confirmed the Frenchman will be available in action this midweek.
