Youssoupha Mbodji netted a brace on his big Champions League debut Wednesday night in Prague. The Senegalese defender opened the scoring and struck again for Slavia Prague against Bodø/Glimt, but his side ultimately had to settle for a 2-2 draw at Fortuna Arena.
Mbodji had recently taken over the number 12 shirt at Slavia, left vacant after El Hadji Malick Diouf’s departure. The 21-year-old defender made his first start for the club against Bodø/Glimt, having only made his first appearance the previous weekend as a substitute against Karviná. Mbodji made a dream start to his European journey by opening the scoring in the 23rd minute. The Senegalese talent ghosted in at the far post to slot home a pinpoint cross from Lukas Provod.
Mbodji wasn’t content to stop there, finding the net again in the 74th minute. His second goal restored Slavia Prague’s lead against a Bodø/Glimt side that had clawed their way back into the contest. The young defender’s outstanding performance lit up his maiden appearance in Europe’s elite competition. Despite Mbodji’s brace, Slavia Prague couldn’t clinch victory over the Norwegian visitors. The two sides ultimately shared the spoils (2-2).
