Renée Slegers praised Arsenal’s mentality and resilience after a late penalty secured victory over HB Koge in the Champions League.

The Gunners looked set to be held to a third successive draw before Selina Cerci won a late penalty, which Mariona Caldentey converted to seal all three points.

Slegers was pleased with the way her side continued to push despite struggling to turn their dominance into goals.

“The three points and the mentality, resilience that we’ve been building to get late goals that are important for us,” she said.

“Again, a lot of dominance, but we don’t get the goal.

“But like I said, the mentality and that’s something we’re going to bring into the season, that we can do things this way as well.

“And then we continue to work on football.”
