Renee Slegers insists that she is not worried despite Arsenal not having won any of their last four matches.
The Gunners were beaten 2-1 by Lyon at home in their first UEFA Women’s Champions League match of the season, a defeat which follows on from their loss to Manchester City the weekend before.
Two goals from Melchie Dumornay ensured that Alessia Russo’s opener was cancelled out and repeated the scoreline from the last time the two sides met in England in last year’s Champions League semi-final first leg.
Despite the poor form Slegers says that she is not worried about her side.
“Worried is not the right word, but of course we are not happy with it,” she said. “It does something to a group. The important thing is that we managed that really well, we have direction moving forward and that we stand strong.
“The positive thing is that we have a strong foundation, both from a cultural perspective and from a football perspective.
“We need to keep on believing in that philosophy because it gave us a lot of things last year. When it starts clicking then we know how good we are.”

Both of Lyon’s goals came from Arsenal giving the ball away at the back, the first mistake coming from Daphne van Domeselaar and the second from Steph Catley. Slegers was asked why her players were making these mistakes.
“Errors can happen in football, we know that,” she explained. “If there’s a bad tendency, if there’s something to analyse, it may seem silly from the outside, but the players still know how to pass the ball and they haven’t forgotten to do that.
“It’s a mixture of factors and sometimes there’s a reaction. For us, it’s important to find one or two things, whether it’s mental, physical, tactical or technical, and that’s how we’re going to improve our game.”
