Arne Slot has admitted Liverpool’s trip to Bournemouth in the Premier League is a ‘big one’ for the club’s title challenge.
Liverpool face an in-form Bournemouth side on Saturday, with the south coast side in the midst of a brilliant run of form. The Cherries are unbeaten in 11 games and have thrashed top-four hopefuls Newcastle and Nottingham Forest by an aggregate score of 9-1 in their last two games.
Andoni Iraola’s side are just a point outside the Champions League places and have beaten Arsenal and Manchester City on home soil this season.
Slot said he is well aware of the tough task facing the league leaders at the Vitality Stadium.
“It’s a big one. I knew this already when we played the second half in the home game. We were 3-0 up at HT but they kept on going at us. That showed me the character. Since then they have been outstanding,” he said at his pre-match press conference.
“His players work incredibly hard. In a different way to Arsenal, they are a threat at set-pieces. Maybe they deserve higher than the position they are at the moment.”
Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes was behind Bournemouth’s impressive recruitment before his move to Anfield in the summer. Slot said Hughes and Bournemouth boss Iraola deserve huge credit for their transformation of the team.
“He is one of the many examples where Richard deserves credit. But not just Richard, their manager as well. You need quality and that is what Richard and his successor brought there. The manager has done a fantastic result.
“Justin (Kluivert) is a great talent. Good to see for us because he left Holland quite young. He is only 24 and at this level already. He will play another big talent who has grown up at Ajax in Ryan Gravenberch. Interesting match-up.”
