Arne Slot has provided two key reasons for why Liverpool have improved in recent months following a dreadful run of form in 2025.
The Reds’ campaign threatened to go off the rails entirely between late September and November, when they lost nine out of 12 games in all competitions.
Although they head into Sunday’s trip to Nottingham Forest with two defeats in their last four Premier League games, those are their only losses in their last 19 matches in all competitions, illustrating an improvement in recent months.
Slot believes that his Liverpool are fitter and better at both defending and attacking set pieces than they were earlier in the season.
“Compared to a few weeks ago I don’t think a lot has changed,” he said in his pre-match press conference. “In the last 19 games we have lost twice, both in extra time. In my opinion, we did not deserve to lose both of those games.
“We didn’t need yesterday (when Arsenal drew with Wolves) to know how difficult it is to win a Premier League game.
“That’s what makes the Premier League nicer this season. It is more competitive than years ago. We’ve improved compared to three or four months ago. I’d even include the Bournemouth game because even though we lost we controlled the game.
“We are fitter now than we were four months ago and also we are better with set-pieces.”
When Liverpool hosted Forest at Anfield earlier this season, they lost 3-0 in one of Sean Dyche’s earliest games in charge of the Midlands outfit. A new coach will be in the dugout again for this weekend after Vitor Pereira replaced Dyche in the hot seat.
“Back then, it was Dyche’s third or fourth game. That makes it a little bit more difficult,” Slot added.
“We only have tonight [Forest’s Europa League match at Fenerbahce] to see if this new manager changes personnel. The good thing is they have that game, and the manager was in the Premier League last season.”
