Slot provides injury update on Isak ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash against Real Madrid  | OneFootball

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has provided an injury update on Alexander Isak ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League fixture with Real Madrid. 

Isak picked up a groin issue during the Reds’ 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt last month, forcing him off at half-time. 

The Swede has since missed the last three matches against Brentford, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa. He was absent from training on Monday. 

Slot has confirmed Isak will miss the upcoming match at Anfield, but he could return against Manchester City on Sunday. Two other players will miss the City game.

“Jeremie (Frimpong) and Alisson will both not be available for Sunday,” Slot said.

“With Alex, we have to wait and see. He definitely is not starting on Sunday, but maybe he can be in the squad.

“But he is still not training with the team, so we have to wait and see.”

Liverpool returned to winning ways on Saturday as they defeated Villa 2-0 courtesy of goals from Mohamed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch. 

The result ended their four-game losing streak in the English top-flight. 

They face a daunting task against Madrid, who defeated Valencia 4-0 in La Liga over the weekend.

Xabi Alonso’s side have enjoyed a perfect record in Europe this season, beating Marseille, Kairat Almaty and Juventus. 

They are firmly in control of the La Liga title race, winning 10 of their 11 games to establish a five-point lead at the top. 

Liverpool are shaky at the back, and Madrid will likely cause them plenty of problems.
