Tijjani Reijnders made a slow start to life at Manchester City. After his superb Premier League debut in Manchester City’s 4-nil win over Wolves, Reijnders has taken time to properly settle into his role in Pep Guardiola’s side. Given Reijnders’ age and quality as a player, it was thought that the Dutch international would hit the ground running for City. While that didn’t occur, it is beginning to become apparent that Tijjani Reijnders is beginning to settle into his role at Manchester City.
Manchester City picked up what can be described as a comfortable 3-nil win over West Ham on Saturday. Erling Haaland bagged a brace, and Tijjani Reijnders scored Manchester City’s second goal of the match. In the case of Reijnders, his first goal at the Etihad was exactly what he needed for his confidence. He has now scored two goals in his past four Premier League matches. Pep Guardiola’s side has Rayan Cherki and Phil Foden scoring goals from midfield. If Tijjani Reijnders can now become a consistent goal scorer from midfield, he’ll become a valuable weapon for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Outside of his goals, the signs are there that Tijjani Reijnders is learning the Pep Guardiola and Manchester City way. During the start of his City career, Reijnders spent a host of matches on the periphery of proceedings. He also looked like he was struggling to adapt to the pace of the Premier League. As time has gone by, Reijnders looks to be settling into life in the Premier League. He also seems to be growing into his role at City.
Reijnders is now helping his team keep possession. While Manchester City are yet to establish the control they crave in matches, they are growing. Tijjani Reijnders is helping in this regard. While he wasn’t a standout performer against West Ham, he did help his team keep possession with his neat passing and intelligent play. You can see what Reijnders will become for Pep Guardiola’s side when he is fully bedded in at the Etihad. He will become a player who helps City maintain the control that Pep Guardiola demands his team keep. Couple this with his eye for goal and his forward runs and Reijnders can be a player who split open a match with his eye for goal and with his passing.
It has taken time, but Tijjani Reijnders is growing into his role at Manchester City. He is yet to fully break open a game for his team but you can see that it is coming. Reijnders has needed time to adjust to life at City and to playing in the Premier League. But he is getting there and that has been pleasing to see over Manchester City’s recent matches.
