Eupen striker Smail Prevljak played over an hour for Bosnia and Herzegovina as the side from the Balkans beat Iceland 3-0 at home. The 27-year-old partnered Augsburg’s Ermedin Demirovic in attack for the majority of the game. However, neither managed to score, with Milan midfielder Rade Krunic bagging a brace in the first half, while Salzburg winger Amar Dedic made it 3-0 just after the hour. Standard Liege midfielder Gojko Cimirot also got some minutes, coming off the bench in the 82nd minute to replace Roma midfielder Benjamin Tahirovic.

For Iceland, OH Leuven’s in form winger Jon Thorsteinsson had a quiet game, only creating one chance and not managing any shots on goal. The 24-year-old was eventually replaced in the 67th minute by Mikael Egill Ellertsson of Venezia.

This was a strong start to qualifying for Prevljak and Cimirot’s Bosnia, putting them in second behind Portugal. Portugal, under former Belgian head coach Roberto Martinez, beat Liechtenstein 4-0 at home to top the group. Bosnia will face Slovakia in their second qualification match on Sunday, before a showdown with Portugal in June.
