Arne Slot praised Liverpool’s opponents Sunderland after his side drew 1-1 at Anfield.
After Chemsdine Talbi’s opener, Florian Wirtz’s shot via a Nordi Mukiele deflection rescued a point for the Reds.
And Slot accepted his side struggled to create the chances he wanted against an impressive Sunderland side.
“A bit of both,” he said when asked if he was pleased or frustrated with the performance.
“I knew before the game when you play Sunderland, they’ve only conceded more than one goal four times, and in those four games they’ve only conceded two.
“It’s a hard team to score against, a hard team to create chances against because they either go really aggressive in the high press or they have 11 players who defend their box with their lives.
“That’s why it’s so difficult to create. In that aspect, I was hoping for more although I know how difficult it is to create against them.”
Slot, however, says a draw was the least his side deserved based on his own side’s defensive performance.
“I think, again, we’ve hardly conceded (chances),” he continued. “The first big chance from them was from a set-piece that hit the post and then their goal in my opinion is not even a chance. If that was a chance then we’ve probably had 20 chances tonight.
“But unfortunately a deflection led to going 1-0 down. In our recent games we’ve found it really hard to get the equaliser, although we had our chances every time.
“But today we had a little bit of luck with scoring to make it 1-1, because that was also a deflection, but for me different because that’s a shot from eight, nine or ten yards so that’s at least a serious chance whereas a shot from 20 yards isn’t a serious chance.”
