Palmeiras, leaders and still in the Copa do Brasil and Libertadores, start the second half on Wednesday away to Coritiba at 19:30 Brasília time in round 19. They will not field their ideal post-World Cup side.
Abel Ferreira faces absences among potential starters. According to Globo.com, Giay has a right ankle sprain, Allan is suspended and Flaco López is unavailable after days off following the World Cup. Vitor Roque is in transition after ankle surgery and did not travel to the Paraná capital.
Paulinho, now cleared to play at least a half, stays out as he serves a Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva ban. Sosa could again lead the line with Mauricio. Arias is expected to return on the left after the World Cup, and Andreas Pereira may be pushed higher on the right.
In defence, Piquerez returns and contests the spot with Arthur, who ended the first half as starter while the Uruguayan recovered from ankle surgery. Barboza, signed from Botafogo, adds options at centre-back.
The squad is seen as virtually complete, with one remaining target, Danilo of Botafogo. Palmeiras offered about R$ 120 million plus Naves to the Rio club, but talks stalled and they remain in contact with the player’s camp and Botafogo.
Botafogo prefer an international sale, yet no proposal suits both sides. Palmeiras will have to raise their bid, but have not set a number and do not want to reach €30 million, R$ 174 million. The window shuts on 11 September, and a decision will come sooner because one further Brasileirão game would block a domestic move.
