Jude Bellingham praised Real Madrid for taking their chances after coming from behind twice to defeat Manchester City 3-2 in the Champions League.
Victory for Real see them one match away from progressing into the Round of Sixteen after two goals in the last ten minutes.
Erling Haaland put City in front twice on the night after Kylian Mbappe had equalised for the current Champions, before Brahim Diaz and Bellingham’s late strikes sealed a brilliant comeback for Los Blancos.
The 21-year-old was delighted with the result and felt his side were deserving of the victory:
“It was a weird one,” Bellingham said. “We played some of our best football of the season and ended up behind.
“I think we were playing well and creating a lot. We were always confident throughout the game that something would drop for us.
“I don’t care what form City are in they are still an unbelievable team. It’s always tricky to play against them and we finally took the chance at the end.”
“It’s always good to take a lead back home and I’m sure the Bernabeu will come through for us.
“It seems like there is up and downs in these knockout games. It’s not just game management, it’s tactical and it’s physiological as well.”
“I just kept running on the off chance that Vini [Vinicius Jr] might put it wide, it’s rare he does that but it happened. Our performance deserved the win.”
Both sides have suffered from significant injuries this season, but Madrid came into this match without a recognised backline, with midfielders Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni in a back four which also included youngster Raul Asencio.
Bellingham was full of praise for Tchouameni and Asencio in particular:
“Two of the four defenders we had were midfielders. [Aurelien] Tchouameni plays there most weeks and it’s tough against one of the best nines in the world. [Raul] Asencio stepped up too.
“Credit to all four of them but especially those two.”
