FC Barcelona returned to action after the March international break in a winning manner as they beat Atletico Madrid 1-2 in a highly difficult game. With this win, the Catalans now have a 7-point cushion at the top of the league table.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Eric Garcia was one of the Blaugrana players who talked to the media after the end of this match. The Spaniard revealed how the team had learned from its mistakes in the Copa del Rey defeat to the Colchoneros:

“We knew it would be difficult. We had the experience from the Copa of what we shouldn’t do.”

The defender admitted that the team was driven after seeing Real Madrid facing defeat earlier in the day:

“We all knew what had happened in the afternoon. We came here after that match, which was a disaster. We knew that if we won, it would be a big statement.”

Garcia believed that his team did its job, despite Atletico not playing their strongest team:

“We knew what we came here to do, even if they wanted to play it down. They are top-level players. Some will say they came out to give us the game, but we had to fight for it. We’re happy about that.”

Barcelona still have two more matches left to play against Atletico, but the defender believed this one was the most important:

“It’s a great victory. The first of three matches. This was the most important one, especially after Real Madrid’s defeat. Now we have a seven-point lead, a good gap. We have to be happy and be ready for Wednesday.“

This win could turn out to be the decisive factor as Barcelona reach the end of the league campaign with a seven-point advantage over Real Madrid. Hopefully, Eric Garcia and his teammates would put in a similar performance when they face the Colchoneros again this Wednesday in the UCL.
