Various Chelsea players are taking flak for their recent performances – not least Levi Colwill, who has been part of a bad defence.

A three week international break on the back of some bad results for Chelsea means there’s going to be a fair bit of blame going around, and the latest player in the crosshairs is Levi Colwill.

On the London is Blue podcast, presenter Nick Verlaney laid into the academy centre back, who missed almost all of last season with an ACL injury.

“He’s had an awful start to the season. He looks like a shell of himself,” Verlaney said.

Really, really poor. He played at the better of last season , coming back from the ACL, than he has at the start of this season when he’s ‘fully recovered’.

“Something is not right. Something is not clicking.”

Colwill and fellow defenders must step up after break

Sadly we have to agree – Colwill has been poor. You can make a lot of excuses for him, not least the difficulty in recovering from a serious injury, but there’s no doubt he has to step up when we’re back after the break.

He was expected to help us defend and progress the ball – two things we’re dreadful at right now.

Chelsea could welcome a full four starts back into the team after the international break, and everyone is hoping that turns things around after a negative spell.
