The son of Sebastián ‘El Loco’ Abreu has suggested that it would be “nice” if he were to play for Chivas one day.
Abreu is the quintessential journeyman having played for over 25 teams in 11 countries during his incredible career.
Even at the ripe old age of 43, he is plying his trade as a player-coach at Uruguayan Primera División side Boston River.
The former Uruguay international striker featured for a host of Mexican clubs, though he is best remembered for his time on loan at Cruz Azul from Spanish side Deportivo de La Coruña in 2002-03.
His 16-year-old son, Diego Abreu, is currently lining out for Defensor Sporting’s U19 side in Uruguay.
Diego, who was born in Mexico in 2003, has already answered the call to pull on the Mexican jersey for the U18 national team.
And it was this experience that is attracting him to The Flock rather than Cruz or one of his father’s many other former clubs.
“In the call for the U18, I was talking to some colleagues from Chivas and they told me about the club, about how they train the players in the First Division and they spoke to me very well, so it would be nice,” the teenager told Mexican channel TVC Deportes.
However, the young forward didn’t go so far as to rule out other options, and went on to suggest that he would listen to offers from other Liga MX sides.
There is no suggestion that Chivas have made any enquiries about the youth international.
