Chelsea have tied Sonia Bompastor down to a long-term contract, with the head coach agreeing an extension that will keep her at the club until 2030.
Bompastor arrived at Stamford Bridge in May 2024 to succeed Emma Hayes and made an instant impression, steering the Blues to a clean sweep of domestic honours in her first year in charge. Chelsea went unbeaten on their way to lifting the Women’s Super League, FA Cup and League Cup.
This campaign has not followed the same script. After dominating the WSL for six straight seasons, Chelsea now sit third and trail leaders Manchester City by 12 points with only eight matches remaining. Their struggles were laid bare by a 5-1 defeat to City last weekend.
Even so, the club have moved to show their confidence in Bompastor by handing her a new long-term deal. The 45-year-old arrived in England with a strong reputation after a hugely successful spell at Lyon, where she became the first figure to win the Women’s Champions League both on the pitch and from the touchline.
