However, a couple of outstanding transfer matters remain, primarily regarding the future of some of the players in the club’s academy ranks.

With United out of Europe this season, first-team minutes are likely to be scarce for youngsters, forcing the Red Devils to be creative so as not to halt their progress. For the club, loan moves to the Championship or other English lower divisions represent the most probable path forward.

A few loanees from the summer have since returned, including Toby Collyer following an injury-disrupted stint at West Brom. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Aljofree and goalkeeper Elyh Harrison were also set to depart Notts County and Shrewsbury respectively.

Aljofree enjoyed a very positive start to life at Notts County. He made 11 appearances, including 10 starts for the League Two outfit.

However, he has not turned out for the side since late September.

Now, Notts County have confirmed that Aljofree has indeed returned to Old Trafford.

Notts County statement on Aljofree

A Notts County statement read, “Sonny Aljofree has returned to Manchester United with our best wishes for the future.”

“The defender made 11 appearances after joining us on loan in the summer, scoring once in a 4-1 victory over Shrewsbury Town.”

United will likely be looking for potential next loan destinations for the Plymouth-born 21-year-old player.

Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim and his players are next in action on Sunday when they face arch rivals Leeds United at Elland Road.
