Sorba Thomas has been Stoke City's standout performer this season since joining from Huddersfield Town in the summer

Sorba Thomas has been integral to Stoke City this season following his move from Huddersfield Town, but how much does he earn, and could he be on his way out in the summer?

Having emerged as early contenders for the top six, Stoke have suffered a calamitous drop-off in form, plummeting down the EFL Championship table as a result.

Mark Robins' side looked like a good bet for a place in the play-offs with nearly half the season gone, but their underlying numbers have seemingly caught up with them and taken effect.

The Potters had, and still have, one of the best defensive records in the second tier this season, owed largely to their work done out-of-possession by assistant coach James Rowberry.

Where they have lacked, quite evidently, is going forward, with Robins’ side having struggled to consistently hit the back of the net this campaign, leading to the recent dismissal of in-possession coach Paul Nevin.

The onus of breaking down opposition defences has largely fallen on Welsh winger Sorba Thomas, who has been directly involved in nearly half of the club's goals in the Championship this season.

However, his recent decline in productivity has meant that goals have been few and far between for Stoke, though despite this, he remains an integral figure in the Potters squad, who will be hoping to keep him at the club beyond next summer.

How much Sorba Thomas earns at Stoke City following Huddersfield Town switch

Stoke endured a busy summer window, with manager Robins overhauling the playing squad that narrowly avoided relegation last campaign.

The likes of Lamine Cisse, Divin Mubama, and Robert Bozenik joined Thomas in attack, whilst Tomas Rigo and Steven Nzonzi added bodies in the midfield, and Maksym Talovierov, Ashley Phillips, and Aaron Cresswell came in to sure up the defence.

Though their best bit of business in the summer was their first, completing a deal to sign Huddersfield winger Sorba Thomas, who has spent the previous season on loan in the French top flight for Nantes.

Thomas signed a three-year deal with the Potters on - as per estimates from Capology - a £20,000p/w deal, putting him among the highest earners at the club.

It would be fair to suggest that his wage is justified, especially when taking into context that Ben Gibson, who has played just three league games this season, is on an estimated £35,000p/w.

Heading into the summer, depending on what division they find themselves in, Stoke may be wise to offer Thomas fresh terms to ensure his future with the club, and, in the event of a sale, they maximise the value they would receive.

Despite his lack of productivity lately, the 27-year-old has proven to be an excellent purchase by the Potters, who will be hoping to evade summer interest for his signature.

Stoke City will be hoping to keep hold of Sorba Thomas beyond the summer window

It goes without question that Stoke will be hoping to keep Thomas at the club beyond the summer window, regardless of what division they find themselves in.

If promoted, he will be a crucial component in that success and will have more than earned a shot in the Premier League. Remain in the Championship, he will continue to be an important player for them in the second tier next year. Whilst relegation at this stage is unlikely, they are still not safe, and should that instance happen, they’d likely be powerless to keep him at the bet365 Stadium.

Rumours that Premier League outfit Bournemouth were interested in bringing Thomas to the South Coast following the sale of Antoine Semenyo emerged, though the Cherries opted to sign Brazilian winger Rayan instead.

If Thomas can find a way back into form towards the latter stages of the campaign, interest in the winger entering the summer will no doubt be rife, though Stoke will also be doing everything they can to keep him in the Potteries for at least another year.
