Sorloth nets hat-trick as Atletico ease past Club Brugge | OneFootball

Alexander Sorloth’s hat-trick powered Atlético Madrid to a 4-1 victory over Club Brugge, sealing a 7-4 aggregate win and a place in the Champions League last 16.

After the 3-3 draw in Belgium, the tie remained delicately balanced, but Atlético struck first in the Spanish capital. Sorloth muscled past Brandon Mechele before drilling a low effort that Simon Mignolet failed to keep out.

Brugge hit back through Joel Ordóñez, who reacted quickest from a corner to level the tie on aggregate once again. The visitors almost turned the contest completely before the break, but Jan Oblak made a crucial save to deny Hugo Vetlesen.

Atlético regained the initiative early in the second half when Johnny Cardoso fired home from distance, restoring their aggregate advantage.

From that point, Diego Simeone’s side were in control. Sorloth added a second after slick build-up play on the edge of the area, then completed his treble late on with a simple finish from a corner to end Brugge’s resistance.

Atlético now await either Liverpool or Tottenham in the next round.
