This site exclusively broke the news at 4.24pm on Sunday (31st January) that Liverpool had made a blockbuster late move for Preston defender Ben Davies.

Sepp van den Berg, who has attracted interest from a number of sides in the Championship and Europe, will head in the opposite direction on loan.

Van den Berg has played exclusively for Liverpool’s Under-23s this season and has made nine appearances in Premier League 2, scoring once.

He has made four senior appearances for the Reds in his career, having made his full debut in October 2019 – a penalty shoot-out victory over Arsenal in the EFL Cup.

The youngster has previous top-flight experience at his former club Zwolle, where he accumulated 23 Eredivisie appearances.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been in dire need of a centre-half this month following injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Fabinho.

Ben Davies will provide much needed cover at an affordable price, the left-footed centre-back only had six months left to run on his contract at Deepdale.
