Last-minute preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations begin as South Africa take on Ghana in a pre-tournament friendly. The two teams go head to head at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto before AFCON kicks off in Morocco on December 21.

Bafana Bafana are without several of their European-based players, who will join up with the squad in Morocco rather than play in this friendly. Lyle Foster, Shandre Campbell and Sphephelo Sithole are all unavailable, with FIFA having changed the date players were due to be released for AFCON duty from December 8 to December 15.

The biggest talking point is that Ghana are not involved in the Africa Cup of Nations at all, with the Black Stars, the four-time winners, having not qualified at all for the winter tournament. As such, they will be missing most of their well-known players here, including Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, who netted for his club at Old Trafford last night.
