A leading South Korea supporters' group has called for former national coach Hong Myung-bo to be permanently barred from coaching in the country after the team's World Cup group-stage exit. The backlash has intensified at home.

South Korea went out after a 1-0 defeat to South Africa in the group phase. Hong resigned following the elimination. The Red Devils, the national team's official supporters, said in a statement on Monday that he should no longer be part of Korean football.

The group said the 57-year-old had not apologised, instead making remarks they viewed as insulting towards Korean supporters. They accused him of failing to seek forgiveness.

Their statement, titled that 2026 is the day South Korean football disappeared, further inflamed an already tense mood around the national side.

The group urged Hong to reflect deeply on his actions, face the country's citizens and leave the sport for good. They also pledged to do everything possible to oppose what they describe as forces harming Korean football.
