South Shields manager Ian Watson says Sunderland's help has been vital as the Mariners chase National League North play-off promotion, with a final against Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday.
Watson and his staff put the squad through their paces at the Academy of Light before last weekend's semi-final. As reported by Sunderland Echo, the work followed a generous invitation from the Black Cats hierarchy, and the Mariners have since returned for further sessions ahead of Saturday's decider.
A first-half penalty from Paul Blackett secured the win over Buxton, leaving Shields 90 minutes from a potential promotion to the National League.
Watson praised Sunderland's community-minded support and said his team would have been lost without it over the last two weeks. He noted the Black Cats did not need to step in, but wanted to help. The manager spoke before a Wednesday session at the Academy of Light.
He has reiterated that admiration as he looks to take his side within one promotion of a place in the EFL.
