Daily Echo reports that Southampton have activated their option to extend 23-year-old goalkeeper Ollie Wright’s contract by one year to 2027, as the club reshapes its goalkeeping group.
The extension follows a standout loan at League Two Accrington Stanley, where Wright played 43 matches, kept 12 clean sheets, and collected both the manager and players’ player of the season awards.
He recorded a 70% save rate and saved three of five penalties.
With Daniel Peretz unlikely to return for 2026/27 and veteran duo Jamie Jones and Alex McCarthy out of contract, change is expected in the department. That scenario currently leaves Gavin Bazunu as the only keeper with first-team experience at Southampton.
Wright could remain in the squad next season or head out on loan again, depending on recruitment. Southampton also hold a £7m option to buy Peretz. For now, the next steps in this area remain unclear.
