Charles was an unused substitute in Saturday's 2-0 Carabao Cup win at Colchester United and appeared to wave to the travelling supporters, hinting at a farewell.

The 22-year-old joined Southampton from Manchester City in 2023 for around £15 million.

He made 38 appearances at St Mary's last season and scored against Leicester City, Arsenal and Middlesbrough.

Charles has been the subject of major summer speculation, with Leeds United seeing multiple bids rejected.
