Southampton climb from 19th to 12th as Azaz and Larin deliver against Swansea | OneFootball

Southampton beat Swansea City 3-1 at St Mary's to climb from 19th to 12th in the Championship.

In the ninth minute Finn Azaz swept in from the centre of the box, set up by Flynn Downes. Cyle Larin doubled the lead via James Bree's cross (33.), taking him to five league goals, second in the Championship scoring chart.

After the restart, Swansea were awarded a penalty when Bree conceded a foul in the area (51.). Zan Vipotnik converted from the spot (52.) to halve the deficit.

Saints regained control after Kuryu Matsuki came on (76.), the substitute promptly teeing up Léo Scienza to find the bottom right (78.).

Daniel Peretz preserved the margin with a smart save from Stephen Eustáquio in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time.

Saints tallied 16 attempts and nine corners, completing 85.5% of their passes. Swansea City registered 10 attempts, with two on target, and 52.4% possession.

Next, Saints host Bristol City. Swansea City welcome Burnley.
