Southampton could benefit from a hefty sell-on fee, if Man City sell the former Saint Max Alleyne to Borussia Dortmund this month.

Southampton has one of the best academies in England. While the club might not have too much going for it at this stage in time, the academy is something that Southampton fans will always have to be proud of.

Needless to say, the academy has produced some exceptional players throughout the history of time including Alan Shearer, Matt Le Tissier and Theo Walcott.

Well, there is another young Saint who is making a name for himself elsewhere, at Man City. However, if the former Southampton academy graduate makes a move to Borussia Dortmund this month, then Southampton would benefit.

According to a report by Alfie House of The Daily Echo, Southampton might benefit from a windfall payment for Max Alleyne. Southampton currently have a 20% sell-on clause working in their favour and he is linked with a potentially big-money move to Borussia Dortmund.

Therefore, Southampton might be in line to "pocket even more than the initial £1.5million they made from Alleyne's initial sale in 2021", says House.

The speculation comes from Fabrizio Romano, the transfer oracle, recently claiming that Borussia Dortmund had approached Man City to discuss a potential deal for Max Alleyne. Other Premier League clubs are believed to be interested, but BVB have approached Man City.

Max Alleyne was part of the Southampton academy, before he was signed by Man City as a teenager in 2021. As it stands, the 19-year-old is yet to make his first league appreance for the Citizens but he might make his move across Europe before that even happens.

Borussia Dortmund, like Southampton, are fine producers of young talent. So, if Alleyna does make the move to the Bundesliga, then he would be in safe hands for his future development.
