Southampton could sign Justin Devenny as Shea Charles nears an exit. According to Sainstmarching.com, they are eyeing the Crystal Palace midfielder as Charles prepares to leave. The pair are Northern Ireland team-mates.

Charles has been integral since arriving, with three goals and two assists in 31 Championship games last season.

Leeds United submitted an offer, though their interest is cooling, while Everton have entered the race. Southampton want more than £30 million and are not shifting. With one year left beyond this summer, the club see this as the best time to sell.

Devenny, 22, has Premier League experience, an FA Cup winners' medal and a Conference League medal. He has 14 Northern Ireland caps and scored his first senior goal last September in a 3-1 win in Luxembourg.

Southampton are reportedly targeting him as a direct Charles replacement. Oliver Glasner has described Devenny as very technical and someone who understands the game. With a year left on his contract, Palace’s price will be manageable.

Preston North End are also keen, which adds urgency. For Tonda Eckert, a midfielder who already knows the colleague he is replacing could ease the transition, even if they never share a Saints midfield.

The logic is clear, bank a sizeable fee for Charles and spend a fraction on Devenny while keeping Northern Ireland talent in midfield. Spors has pulled off smarter deals recently, and this one looks straightforward by comparison.
