Southampton have sacked manager Will Still after just five months in charge, with the club sitting three points above the Championship relegation zone, BBC Sport reports.

The 33-year-old was appointed in May after leaving French side Lens, but won only two of his 13 league games in charge. Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Preston North End, which left Saints 21st in the table, was ultimately his last.

In a statement, the club confirmed that assistants Ruben Martinez, Clement Lemaitre, and Carl Martin have also departed, while under-21s head coach Tonda Eckert will take over on an interim basis.

Will is a great person who gave everything to try and improve performances and results,” said technical director Johannes Spors. “Ultimately that process has taken longer than any of us would have liked. By making a change now, we believe it gives us the best chance of turning things around this season.

Still’s side had managed just two league wins this campaign, against Wrexham and Sheffield United, alongside six draws and five defeats. After a run of five games without a win, the club have decided to act quickly in hopes of steadying their season and climbing back up the table.
