Southampton slipped to a second straight away defeat at Carrow Road, Ryan Manning’s superb strike not enough to save a point. Two Nathan Wood errors handed Jovon Makama both goals as Norwich eased relegation fears and closed to within two points of safety.
Sainstmarching.com rates Wood four out of 10, highlighting how Makama ran across him to score moments after half-time, then capitalised again when the defender ball-watched.
Saints started brightly. Léo Scienza clipped the bar with an early free-kick and Flynn Downes should have scored from the rebound. Scienza then won a penalty that Adam Armstrong failed to convert before the break.
Norwich struck immediately after the restart. Southampton responded, Ryan Fraser’s pressure forced a corner from which Manning rifled a glorious equaliser, only for Makama to restore the hosts’ lead. The forward almost claimed a hat-trick just after the hour when Wood missed a tackle.
Scienza, named player of the match, remained a constant menace, while Finn Azaz sent a speculative effort over with the goalkeeper off his line. Gavin Bazunu was not at fault for either goal.
Fraser was replaced by Welington on the hour, with Cameron Archer, Jay Robinson, Cam Bragg and Oriol Romeu also featuring. Armstrong should have had a penalty after a push in the box.
