Southampton is eyeing to raid Rennes once again in January, this time for midfielder Glen Kamara.

Recently, Southampton has finalised the signing of midfielder Albert Gronbaek from Rennes. Following a horrible first half showing against Nottingham Forest, Southampton desperately needed to upgrade their midfield.

Furthermore, midfielders like Flynn Downes and Will Smallbone have recently returned from their injuries. Thus, they need time to adapt and as such, the Saints have entered into the midfielder's market.

Currently, two kinds of midfielders are needed, an advanced playmaker and a defensive midfielder. New arrival Gronbaek ticks the first checkbox with his flair and vision in the middle of the park.

Talking about the latter, it could be Gronbaek's Rennes teammate.

According to a report from TBR Football, Southampton have held talks with French club Rennes to sign Glen Kamara.

Southampton have a habit of making multiple transfers quickly. A few days ago, they signed Welington and Joachim Kayi Sanda in quick succession.

Recently, they announced the double exits of Maxwel Cornet and Ben Brereton Diaz. Thus, it's safe to assume that the Saints must have doubled their efforts to land the Finland star.

After all, they have been eyeing him since the beginning of the January transfer window.

The reason being, that Kamara is a similar profile player as Joe Aribo and Lesley Ugochukwu. The latter two have been shining under Ivan Juric and the same expectation goes for the former as well.

Apart from that, Glen Kamara is well familiar with Southampton's objectives. The Saints are fighting for their Premier League status, and Kamara narrowly missed promotion with Leeds last season.

Hence, Kamara would be willing to take up this challenge.

If Southampton manages to pull off this transfer, it would be a sensational masterstroke.

Firstly, Kamara will help Gronbaek to quickly familiarize in the new surroundings. Secondly, the Saints will get the perfect addition to complete their midfield puzzle.
