Southampton set to sign centre-back Schlotterbeck on permanent deal | OneFootball

Daily Echo understands that Southampton are set to sign centre-back Keven Schlotterbeck from Augsburg on a permanent deal. The 29-year-old would add depth as Josh Quarshie is expected to leave on a season-long loan, with the fee understood to be around £3 million.

The six-foot-two left-footer has 152 Bundesliga appearances, with 10 goals and six assists, and represented Germany at the Olympics.

He played 24 times in the top flight for Augsburg last season and captained them to a 2-0 win in the cup first round last week.

Schlotterbeck is set to travel to England for a medical and other formalities before confirmation of the move, and no issues are anticipated.

The deal is independent of interest in Taylor Harwood-Bellis, who has missed Southampton's last two matches after a bid from Aston Villa. Saints have rejected offers from Villa, and while open to a sale at the right price, their valuation has not been met.

Quarshie, 22, has yet to feature this season under head coach Tonda Eckert. The former Schalke starlet was technical director Johannes Spors' first signing last summer and has been fourth choice, with his loan destination still to be determined.
