Southampton have landed 20-year-old centre-back Joshua Quarshie from Hoffenheim in a deal thought to be worth £3.5 million.
He’s signed a four-year contract and becomes new manager Will Still’s first signing of the summer.
Quarshie made his Bundesliga debut at 18 and has picked up most of his senior experience with Hoffenheim’s second team, plus loan spells at Fortuna Düsseldorf and Greuther Fürth, where he made 28 appearances in Germany’s second tier.
Towering at 6ft 5in, he’s not just a physical presence - he’s rapid too. In fact, he clocked the fastest sprint speed in the 2. Bundesliga last season, reaching a blistering 37.04 km/h.
Speaking about his move, Joshua Quarshie said: “It makes me feel very happy because Southampton is a very big club with very good history. From the first second, I felt Southampton is the right club.
“English football is a little bit rough and I like this kind of playing style. With my height and my body, I think I’m in the right spot. Since I was a little kid I was dreaming to play in England and now it’s coming to reality, so I’m very excited to play here.”
