He featured in first-team pre-season, netting in a 3-1 win at Eastleigh last month, and was included in the Germany training camp squad.

Orient finished 20th in League One last season and have seen Saints academy graduate Dom Ballard move to Championship side Bristol City.

Oyekunle said the manager was a major factor in his decision, pointing to a strong track record with strikers. He described himself as a good finisher who links play well and is eager to get started.

Head coach Richie Wellens said he received positive references on Oyekunle from Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Flynn Downes. He praised the forward’s pressing, movement and finishing, and said the challenge now is stepping up to men’s football at the right club.

Orient begin their League One campaign on Saturday at home to Sheffield Wednesday.
