Saints are reportedly weighing up former Wolves boss Rob Edwards as a possible successor to Tonda Eckert.

Eckert’s future is uncertain after an FA disciplinary hearing linked to the Spygate scandal on Thursday. According to The Telegraph, Edwards has been considered as an interim option if a ban stops Eckert from continuing.

Saints are awaiting the verdict and are weighing contingency plans in case the German receives a lengthy suspension.

The 43-year-old was sacked by Wolves in June after their Premier League relegation, with Portuguese coach César Peixoto taking over.

Edwards has managed in the Championship with Luton Town and Middlesbrough. He is a former Wales international, and Saints are said to have admired him for some time.
