Southampton are closing in on the signing of Tom Fellows from West Brom after a £10 million deal was agreed between the two clubs.

According to The Athletic, the 22-year-old is set for a switch to St. Mary’s as Will Still looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of Monday’s 7pm deadline.

Fellows has come through the Baggies’ academy system, cementing himself as a key figure in the first-team squad over the last 18 months.

The winger contributed four goals and 14 assists last season, with Albion finishing ninth in the table under Tony Mowbray.

When asked if the £10 million fee represents good value, FLW’s Southampton fan pundit Martin Sanders claimed it’s a great deal.

He cited the arrival of Fellows as a move that was the top of his transfer wishlist at the start of the summer, and he believes the combination of him and Finn Azaz joining is great business to close the window with.

“£10 million is very good value for money,” Sanders told Football League World.

“I didn’t think Saints would want to pay more than £10 million for him, especially spending 12 on Finn Azaz. That would be it for them.

“Anyone else that comes in will be free and loans, but I think he’s a very good player.

“We’re bringing in two really good Championship quality players, which I think I’ve been calling for.

“Experience to play at this level I think is really important, Championship players that know how to win games.

“We’ve got a manager that’s young, that needs experience around him.

“I think he will be a really, really good signing for us.

“He was top of my list, I did a feature where we were talking about wishlist and he was top of my wishlist.

“A signing I really wanted to see and it could potentially happen, if they can get it over the line, which is the big thing.”

Tom Fellows arrival is great business for Southampton

Southampton’s squad is in need of reinforcement out wide, and Fellows is a great addition to bolster that area of the team.

A £10 million move could prove fantastic value for money in the long run given he is still only 22 and has already shown himself as a top Championship talent.

If he can help the club gain promotion to the Premier League this season by maintaining that level of performance, then he’ll be worth every penny.

The loss of Tyler Dibling is a blow to the team, but the club are reinvesting that money well with Fellows and Azaz joining the ranks.
