FLW's Southampton fan pundit has given his verdict on Steven Gerrard potentially replacing Will Still
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Will Still is under immense pressure to turn things around at Southampton following a poor start to the Championship season.
The 33-year-old took charge of the Saints in the summer following their relegation from the Premier League, with the aim of guiding the team back to the top flight immediately.
However, a promotion push will now be quite a challenge at St. Mary’s this season, with the team already 13 points adrift of the automatic promotion places after 12 games.
Southampton have just won twice so far this term, drawing six and losing four, to leave them with 12 points from a possible 36.
A four game winless run has called into question whether Still will be manager for much longer, unless good results come quickly.

When asked if Steven Gerrard is a possible option to replace Still, if he's sacked, FLW’s Southampton fan pundit Martin Sanders claimed that the club absolutely must avoid that move.
He believes the former Rangers manager lacks the experience to do well at this level, and that there could be some complications relating to the pay-off he received from his time working with Saudi Arabia side Al-Ettifaq.
“Absolutely 1000 per cent no,” Sanders told Football League World.
“I don’t want Steven Gerrard.
“I just don’t think he’s got the experience at this level.
“You can’t go from one manager that doesn’t have experience to another manager that doesn’t have experience, if you’re going to make a change.
“You’d have to go and get experience, not like people that don’t have experience at this level.
“But it is the sort of appointment that Southampton do make.
“This is our sort of appointment, but apparently there’s some sort of issue with Gerrard and the pay-off from Saudi, that’s why I think Rangers didn’t touch him.
“I don’t think Saints would go for Steven Gerrard, deep down.”
Still arrived with a promising reputation from his time in Ligue 1, having guided Lens to an eighth place finish in the table last season.
His Reims side also earned a ninth place result in the previous campaign, showing he knew how to compete at that level across multiple teams.
Next up for Southampton is a home clash against seventh place Preston North End on Saturday in a 3pm kick-off, where Still’s side will be seeking a first win since 30 September.

Southampton have been playing well, creating chances and generally being the better side in a lot of their games, but just haven’t been getting results.
Sticking with Still is the right answer for the Saints, as their form should turn around if they keep playing like this.
Better decision-making in the final third, and some more clinical finishing from their forwards, and the results should naturally come.
Meanwhile, Gerrard’s career has been less than stellar, and there’s very little to suggest he has what it takes to turn things around for the Hampshire outfit.
