Southampton signing Albert Gronbaek has played rarely in over a month. Still, his comeback is possible if the midfielder learns from club hero Ekelund's tale.
Answer honestly, do you believe in football regens? Surely, it's a matter of one's choice but if you ask me, you should.
Now, I get it, of the current Southampton roster, it's difficult to find many such players. Still, you might agree that some like prodigy talent Shea Charles do remind one of former stars like Ward Prowse and others.
But, would you believe there's this one Saints player who feels the ideal regen of a former club hero? It's Southampton's winter signing Albert Gronbaek.
Well, the attacking midfielder draws surprising parallels with former star Ronnie Ekelund. Be it his nationality, his playing style, or the transfer terms of a short loan deal, Gronbaek shares everything.
Alas, still, it is time until Gronbaek proves to be the new successor of Ekelund's role at the club.
But, optimistically, he has his inspiration source certain as he matures his talent. Tell me, can it be better than following Ekelund's tale? When he was the most talented Saints player as per club icon Matt Tissier.
As quoted by Give Me Sport, Tissier had made this Ekelund claim in an interview, saying: "From the very first training session, we were on the same wavelength. He almost thought the same way that I thought and from day one we got on brilliantly. He was the most talented footballer I played with at Southampton."
For sure, Gronbaek's Southampton life hasn't been smooth so far. Still, if the midfielder sticks with the principles of heroes like Ronnie Ekelund, there's little doubt he won't succeed.
Clearly, club legend Matt Le Tissier's words reflect that Ekelund was his best teammate ever. Well, how about if Albert Gronbaek regenerates such a duo with talented star Tyler Dibling?
