Victor Wanyama's transfer decision has filled Southampton fans with both nostalgic as well as puzzled feelings. Now, Wanyama has come forward to remove away any doubts about his recent step.
Recently, Southampton's renowned defensive stalwart Victor Wanyama penned a short-term contract with Dunfermline Athletic.
As nostalgic as it sounded to the Saints, they didn't expect Wanyama to return to the British football landscape after almost a decade. Now, I am not questioning Wanyama's midfield abilities because he still remains an elite possession-winner despite losing his initial pace.
Yet, what's strange about this transfer is that the 33-year-old chose a second-division challenge when he could still line up for many Premiership outfits.
Further, he could've imitated Adam Lallana for a last dance at Southampton. This way, the Saints may not be forced to rely heavily on Joe Aribo for assuming defensive duties in almost every other fixture.
Still, let's not get upset for missing out on Wanyama's return just because the Kenyan hero had other commitments. In fact, one of the driving factors in the latter's decision was a heartwarming gesture for his former coach.
In case you didn't know, Wanyama rose to European prominence during his star-making Celtic spell. There he received a wealth of valuable guidance from Neil Lennon which later led him to carve out a glowing reputation in the Premier League.
