Taylor Harwood-Bellis has re-emerged as a key figure for Southampton after an injury-hit pre-season, praising young interim Tonda Eckert before today's Wembley semi-final against Manchester City. According to Sainstmarching.com, his form has underpinned the club's revival.

The centre-back spent much of pre-season in a protective boot amid transfer chatter and fading England hopes. He forced his way back into the XI under Eckert and has captained the side in Jack Stephens' absence.

Harwood-Bellis has contributed important goals during a 20-game unbeaten run. He has also rediscovered his passing range, helping Saints build from the back when space allows.

Today pits the 24-year-old against his boyhood club. He joined Manchester City's academy at six, reached the FA Youth Cup final in 2019, signed a four-year deal in 2020 and then had loans at Blackburn, Anderlecht, Stoke and Burnley.

After arriving on the South Coast he helped win promotion, triggering a £20 million obligation to buy. A poor campaign then ended in relegation, fuelling talk of a summer exit. He could wear the armband again today.

"You can't underestimate how tough it will have been for him coming in as the interim. The record is just mental, 20 unbeaten with 16 wins, I don't think you do that without a good manager keeping you grounded and humble."

Harwood-Bellis still hopes to play for his country again and has said the path back is promotion with Southampton and consistent Premier League displays. Supporters will hope he stays beyond this season.
