Southampton’s Brazilian left-winger Scienza has been a standout and a fans’ favourite this season, heading to Wembley for today’s FA Cup semi-final with a grounded outlook.
“I'm always seeking to get better every day. I don't like to compare myself with nobody because everybody has a different history, a different background, a different way of being. I just try to be better than I was yesterday. So every day a bit better.” He was speaking to TNT Sports.
On the pitch he finds space in transition, goes down the side to cross or cuts inside to shoot with his right. Goals against Queens Park Rangers and Derby County underlined that threat.
Off it, his rags-to-riches journey runs from paying to play to performing before a 90,000 sell-out. He lingers for autographs, gifts shirts and engages actively with young supporters.
“Most of the players that they have, until maybe last season, playing the PlayStation with them, now I had the chance to play against them” “When I swapped shirts with them, it's just a thing of gratitude for the moment.“
There is no guarantee Scienza will start against City, and Southampton could flood midfield to starve Erling Haaland of service. The Saints are rank outsiders to reach the final on Saturday, 16th May, but anything is possible.
