Johannes Spors' refusal to comment on Walker-Peters' contract supports the ongoing notion of his free transfer exit.
The upcoming summer transfer window might be the biggest one for Southampton in recent history. Especially, given how the latest transfer announcement builds up to the event.
But, if you are one of those who believe it would be an all-success one for the Saints, you might be in for a shock.
This is because even without any surprise deals, Southampton still carries the baggage of some unresolvable transfer issues into this window. By now, you must’ve figured out where this is heading, the Kyle Walker-Peters saga.
In case you have forgotten the lead, currently Southampton stand just as a spectator in the defender's rights. After casually delaying his renewal, the club now faces the real fear of losing Walker-Peters for free this summer.
But the real embarrassment for Southampton isn't just their inaction here, actually it's that they've already accepted defeat.
Recently, in a conversation with the Daily Echo, club director Johannes Spors looked helpless upon being asked about Walker-Peters' Saints' future. Hesitantly, he said: "I don't want to speak too much about what we are doing there really."
Even the most optimistic Saints fans can see it quite clearly now, the club has surrendered to losing Walker-Peters.
Well, not to say that Southampton's activity would have had Walker-Peters continue against his will, but at least they should have made a concrete effort until the summer window. After all, giving up on one of your best club defenders easily doesn't send a positive message to the fans.
Now, this might sound like an overreaction, but the Walker-Peters saga should go down as one of Southampton's worst blunders in recent memory. Only then, can an improvement be expected from the club ahead.
Nevertheless, there's still plenty for us fans to follow in Southampton’s summer transfer window. Let's wait and hope for the best.
