Souza has retired from football at 38, announcing the decision while at América-RN.

According to Nosso Palestra, he had been with América-RN since 2024 and confirmed the news on Wednesday 15.

The midfielder played for Palmeiras in 2009 and 2010, then returned in 2017, making 63 appearances with two goals and two assists.

He arrived at Verdão as a youngster after impressing at clubs in the Federal District, and featured in the CONMEBOL Libertadores in 2009 and 2013.

Souza also represented Ponte Preta, São Caetano, Cruzeiro, Santos, Bahia, Náutico, Cerezo Osaka in Japan, Al-Ettifaq, and Khorfakkan of the United Arab Emirates.
