The Qatar Football Association said in a statement that all competitions, tournaments and matches in the country are suspended because of regional instability after weekend strikes by Israel and the United States on Iran, leaving the Spain-Argentina Finalissima in doubt.

Spain and Argentina were due to meet on Friday 27 March 2026 at Lusail Stadium in Doha. Qatar’s government has moved urgently to protect the integrity and safety of participants amid the conflict in the Middle East.

New dates for a restart will be set via official channels when appropriate, and will depend on developments in the coming weeks or months.

The suspension also covers two Spain fixtures under Luís de la Fuente, the Finalissima and a friendly against Egypt on 30 March, both in Qatar. Spain have been hampered by injuries this season.

Next week’s AFC Champions League ties are postponed until further notice, with four round-of-16 matches originally slated for the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

There is still no official cancellation of the Finalissima, and whether it goes ahead on schedule remains unclear. The Qatari decision puts the match at serious risk of being called off, and both federations are expected to set out their positions in the coming hours. The game is seen as a key step in preparations for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
