Spain manager Luis de la Fuente did not pull any punches earlier this week when he teed off on FC Barcelona over Lamine Yamal’s last-minute withdrawal from the squad.
The La Roja head coach accused the Blaugrana of poor communication and not respecting his decisions, as the 18-year-old winger had to be withdrawn from the squad after undergoing treatment to address his pubic discomfort.
However, speaking ahead of Spain’s upcoming game against Georgia, the manager opted to take a much more relaxed stance, while stating that there was always room for improvement when it came to communication between all parties involved.
“The best news is that he has 15 years left with us. We have to think about the present and the future. The present is about relying on the players we have, winning and almost securing qualification, and that is our concern,” said De la Fuente.
“Everything can be improved, and we will try to improve in all areas, but what we have to improve is tomorrow’s performance. We are doing well and we need to keep improving,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Spain manager also commented on the situation of Dani Olmo, who has seen his stock decline this season due to injuries and inconsistent form.
The La Roja boss was full of praise for the Barcelona playmaker and highlighted the value he brings to the team with his versatility and quality, saying:
“He is a player who can play in different positions. I have no doubt about him, he is made for the national team. He is the kind of player who, even when he is not doing well at his club, comes in and performs at a very high level,” said De la Fuente.
“He arrived at the European Championship with physical problems and played at a high level. He is also a great person. Whether he plays or not, whatever he contributes will always be for the good of the team.”
